The Marvin and Rosalie Okun Religious School teaches children in grades Kindergarten through tenth, and strives to provide our students with a comprehensive Conservative Jewish Education, as well as prepare them for their B'nai Mitzvah.
All grades meet on Sundays during the school year from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Grades two through seven also meet on Wednesdays from 4:15pm to 6:15pm. Our Sunday education focuses on Jewish values and ethics, holidays, history, and current events as well as Jewish culture, music and dance. On weekdays the focus is on Hebrew and prayers in preparation for student's B'nai Mitzvah. Additionally, we like to provide occasional field trips and enrichment opportunities for our students.
The congregation also provides our students with the opportunity to help in leading services. Four to five times a year we have a Shabbat community dinner and services with different grades leading the Friday Night Service. As the children get older, they are encouraged to participate in the Saturday Morning Service to make them more comfortable on the Bimah. We believe this helps children become more aware of the order of services and promotes their involvement in services throughout their lifetime.
Many of our teachers are community members, and most of them have teaching degrees. They bring a love of their faith and community to the classroom and take their roles as educators very seriously. Community members also help out as Bubbies and Zaydes in the classrooms and help with the preparation of our community dinners. An actively involved community is needed for the complete education of our youth.
Our children are our community's future and our school works hard to provide them with love, guidance and a complete education to encourage them to become educated, active adults.
